Guest SpeakerSami Owens, Recruitment -Reports directly to Mike Camille and works closely with Dr. Bruno; She and the office are over recruitment, Aces Place, enrollment, admissions, international students, and scholarships. -Explained the difference between Marketing Office and Recruitment and Admissions Office -Reported current state of recruitment is in a valley. Spring numbers are tracking ~20-30 applications ahead of last year. Fall numbers are down approximately 100 applications, but increased number of admitted students. Ms. Owens reports the Recruitment office is admitting at a much faster rate than 1 year ago. All other schools in UL system are down in admissions, excluding Grambling. -Financial aid packages are being sent to students much sooner this year. Ralph Perry is the new Financial Aid director. Ms. Owens reported that 600 freshman have sent FAFSA in already; potentially 700 students with scholarship/financial aid offers in December. -Ms. Owens explained the different challenges with keeping early admission students. Gen Z students are weighing financial risks with benefits of attending college. Students are asking about affordability, how much money they will make after college, and how much debt will they incur. Recruitment office is attempting to offer good scholarships and show students numbers beforehand related to financials. -Browse on the Bayou is scheduled for 11/9/19; 250 already registered for event; two additional recruitment events are scheduled in the next two weeks focusing on Alexandria and Shreveport areas. Ms. Owens stated recruitment office will participate in ArkAcro recruiting event in South Arkansas and is attempting to hit our own area harder. -Improvements mentioned included waivers for all out of state fees and website enhancement and maintenance to improve admissions. -Ms. Owens wants 鶹ý recruiters to 1. Advocate for higher education 2. Advocate for 鶹ý and our programs here 3. Promote safety/security 4. Promote financials. Regarding individual programs and their promotion, Ms. Owens and the recruiters take messages from the College Deans to present at various events. 鶹ý has a contract for alumni data to be processed through University Planning and Analysis office and is housed in 鶹ýs online data dashboard ulm.edu/upa. Debbie Beaver, Staff Senate President -Reported staff senate has been working on handbook and policies; some policies are at standstill, including crisis leave pool policy. -Revised handbook from two years ago has not been approved; 2014 handbook is currently posted/approved version. Staff senate will bring revised handbook to meeting in November for anticipated posting in December. -Ms. Beaver and President McDaniel expressed support of faculty toward staff and vice versa. Executive officer meetings between faculty and staff senate have gone well and very supportive of each other. -Recycling proposal staff senate is supportive and stands with Dr. Walkers resolution to recycle. Dr. Walker and Ms. Beaver will discuss options, feasibility, etc. Dr. Catherine Estes, TRIO Director -Dr. Estes explained 鶹ýs TRIO programs, which are federally funded to assist first-generation and income eligible students after admission. TRIO program is not recruitment; the program provides tutors and counseling to promote student success. Dr. Estes reported 鶹ý offers $42,000 in foundational scholarships, but monies are not enough. -TRIO is housed under academic affairs and OSPR due to its support through federal grant funding. Grants are rewritten every five years and are time sensitive; VCOM will be assisting with grants as of 1/1/20. TOPICSSubcommittee Reports: -Dr. Starks cannot be here to provide report for Faculty Welfare Subcommittee. Executive Committee Luncheon: -Ruiz is confirmed for November faculty senate meeting; in Baton Rouge today. -Academic partnerships, MFT, and DPD program discussed -Sugar and Caldwell Halls will be updated and will remain health sciences buildings -Health Sciences Dean Search: Dr. Sushma Krishnamurthy is chairing search committee; Administration may want or prefer external hire, but there has been no word on internal hire. Resolution to Recycle presented by Dr. Walker -Dr. Bruno is for recycling efforts, but wants student-driven and cost neutral venture -Warhawks properties has recycling event with athletics as coordinated, concerted effort; athletics department will offer recycling at one home basketball, football, and baseball game. - Recycling affects recruitment efforts as well; Ms. Owens agreed. -Paper stations by printing areas was recommended -Dr. Walker reviewed resolution, which will be posted to Moodle, and asked for comments to be submitted by next Wednesday for an online vote within a week. Workload Process -Grievance policy and Post-Tenure Review policy discussed. Dr. Fellows is the administrative liason for Faculty Handbook Revision Committee. Members include Janelle McDaniel, Bruce Walker, Stacy Starks, Candace Gandy and Courtney Robertson. -Handbook revision draft will be submitted to VPAA office, which includes VP, Ms. Alma Sewell, and Dr. Fellows. Bylaws Committee -Asked to verify our facultys definitions to reflect program directors and general faculty -Work to include TRIO director Dr. Estes as standing member or standing invitation to all meetings.
