Practicum Experience in Health Studies

The Practicum

Th±ðÌýHealth Studies Practicum provides students with on-the-job healthcare experiences and the opportunity to gain necessary observation hours in their professional discipline under an approved agency’s supervision.

Th±ðÌýHealth Studies PracticumÌýis a 3-credit course typically completed in the student’s senior year during the summer and allows students to explore interests and career options while in school. Students will see what they have learned in class and how it applies to their current work and future employment.Ìý

TheÌýPracticumÌýis only offered during the summer full term session.Ìý Students who seek to register forÌýHLST 4003Ìýmust submit their Intent to Register form to th±ðÌýPracticumÌýCoordinator in the spring semester by the designated due date. Students must complete a minimum of 104 hours while onÌýpracticumÌýto satisfy course requirements.

The practicum experience helps students build practical skills necessary for career success.

Practicum Coordinator

The role of the Health Studies Practicum Coordinator is to organize all matters related to finding and approving sites, creating the Memorandum of Understanding(MOU) with the sites, reviews and approves applications, assures students and preceptors adhere to practicum policies and resolves conflicts between the practicum sites and students.
