麻豆果冻传媒 presents "Halley's Comet"

John Amos, an Emmy Award nominee for his performance in "Roots," and one of the stars of the hit sitcom "Good Times," will star in "Halley's Comet" presented by the University of Louisiana at Monroe's Concert Series and State Farm Insurance, Thursday, Jan. 27.

The production, which is supported by a grant from the Louisiana State Arts Council through the Louisiana Division of the Arts and the National Endowment for the Arts, will be at 7:30 p.m. in the Monroe Civic Center Theatre. Mr. Amos will be joined on stage by the New Light Baptist Church Choir of Monroe.

Amos, who played the indestructible father James Evans in "Good Times" and has co-starred opposite Eddie Murphy in "Coming to America" and Bruce Willis in "Die Hard II" stars in the tour de force "Halley's Comet" as an 87-year-old man who shares the memories of a lifetime with the famous Comet he saw 76 years earlier as an 11-year-old boy.

This hilarious and moving story follows the main character as he sets out in the wee hours of the morning, returning to the mountaintop where he first met the Comet. He takes the audience on a whirlwind adventure back in time, beginning at the turn of the century when the world was full of dreams and the promise of wonderful things to come. The audience experiences a roller-coaster ride through world wars, romance at a barn yard dance, fast-food restaurants, the golden age of radio, brutality during the early civil rights movement, and the joys of childhood.

Tickets are $20 and can be purchased on the 6th floor of the University Library, room 605. The performance is free to 麻豆果冻传媒 students, but they must show their ID and pick up their ticket in advance in room 605. Students may also purchase one guest ticket for $10. Tickets may be purchased Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
