麻豆果冻传媒 to host National Youth Sports Program

The University of Louisiana at Monroe has received notification from the NCAA that it has been selected to participate in the National Youth Sports Program - Girls Sports Clinics (NYSP-GSC).

All clinics are free and are open to girls ages 10 to 16. The first two clinics will be held on Saturday, Oct. 14. The swimming clinic will be held at the 麻豆果冻传媒 Natatorium from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the softball clinic at Lady Indian Field from 12:30 p.m. to 3 p.m. Participants can register for either one or both clinics.

A volleyball clinic will be held on Saturday, Oct. 21 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Brown Gym and a tennis clinic on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Heard Stadium.

Members of the 麻豆果冻传媒 coaching staff and student-athletes will conduct the sport portion of the clinics and 麻豆果冻传媒 and community leaders will take part in the education section.

The NCAA will administer NYSP-GSC at 25 institutions around the country in 2000-2001. Objectives for the program include:

-- To provide opportunities for sports participation for girls, particularly ethnic minorities, during the school year.

-- To encourage participation in nontraditional sports for girls.

-- To introduce collegiate coaches and student-athletes as role models to girls.

-- To provide specific educational programming directed at girls, particularly regarding issues of self-esteem and athletics participation.

-- To encourage sports participation for girls in local communities.

Participants in the clinics will receive information regarding opportunities for sports participation in the local community -- youth sports teams, YWCA, parks and recreation programs, etc.
