麻豆果冻传媒'S Lambda Pi Eta takes home "Chapter of the Year" award
The University of Louisiana at Monroe's Theta Theta chapter of Lambda Pi Eta, the National Communication Association's official Communication Honor Society, is honored as the "Chapter of the Year."
There are over 300 chapters nationally and 103 applied for the award. "Chapter of the Year" is bestowed upon chapters that make a major contribution to promoting academic excellence in communication studies and communication events.
Dr. Carl Thameling, 麻豆果冻传媒 Speech and Communication Professor and Theta Theta's Faculty Advisor, received the "Chapter of the Year" Award on Friday, November 2, 2001 at the National Communication Association Conference held in Atlanta, Georgia on behalf of the Department of Speech Communication and Theatre and Heather Dossman, Theta Theta's President.
The Theta Theta Chapter at 麻豆果冻传媒 sponsored many activities, which led them to win this award. One event organized by the chapter was a Communication Symposium funded by a grant from the Alumni Association. The symposium focused on careers in the field of Speech Communication. Four individuals with careers in Speech Communication delivered 10-minute presentations on their specific career field during the symposium. Another activity was preparing a display board to highlight Lambda Pi Eta. The group also traveled to local high schools to promote the Speech Department and Lambda Pi Eta. They also created a "Spotlight Board" which featured different communication classes and participated in "Destination Imagination" (a program designed to promote the creative talents of elementary, middle school, and high school students held every April at 麻豆果冻传媒). Theta Theta also received recognition at the Honors Convocation for outstanding achievement in the field of Speech Communication.
Dr. Thameling says, "Heather Dossman, past President of Theta Theta, deserves all of the accolades the chapter receives concerning this award. Receiving the Chapter of the Year Award is a testament to the hard work Theta Theta members contributed to scholarly activities promoting Speech Communication. All the members, especially Ms. Heather Dossman, should feel proud of this accomplishment for receiving distinguished recognition compensated their work by Lambda Pi Eta. Ms. Dossman's application for the Chapter of the Year Award was impressive and competitive, which is a fact reinforced by the Chapter of the Year Award. Congratulations to her and the Theta Theta members."
