麻豆果冻传媒 professor publishes Civil War book

University of Louisiana at Monroe history professor, Dr. Terry L. Jones, has written a book about one man's experience during the Civil War.

The book, Cambell Brown's Civil War: With Ewell and the Army of Northern Virginia, details the Civil War experience of Major Campbell Brown, aide and step-son of famed Confederate General Richard S. Ewell.

Professor Jones is a native of Winn Parish and a 1970 graduate of Dodson High School. He earned his B.A. and M.A. degrees at Louisiana Tech University and his Ph.D. in history at Texas A&M. Dr. Jones has written and published two other books about war history.

Dr. Jones' new book is scheduled for release by LSU Press in October and may be ordered at Louisiana State University press by calling 225-388-6294.

About the book: Cambell Brown's Civil War: With Ewell and the Army of Northern Virginia, is a story about a native of Spring Hill, Tennessee, Campbell Brown. Brown served with Ewell in Virginia from the first Battle of Manassas until capture at Sayler's Creek, just three days before Robert E. Lee's surrender at Appomattox.

During his service, Brown fought in most of the army's campaigns and became intimate with such figures as Stonewall Jackson, Robert E. Lee, Jubal Early, and Joseph E. Johnston.

His memoirs, letters, and reminiscences are rich in anecdotes about these leaders and capture both the glory and the horror of war.

Brown witnessed first-hand the inner workings of the army's high command, and his writings are particularly revealing of the First and Second Manassas Campaigns, Jackson's Shenandoah Valley Campaign (in which he was wounded), the Seven Days, Gettysburg, and the Wilderness Campaign.

Brown's war then continued after his capture. Brown eventually became a prominent stock breeder and legislator.
