ULM Art Department Announces Winner of Juried Student Competition

The Department of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe has announced the results of the Fifth Annual Juried Student Competition.

麻豆果冻传媒 students were eligible to submit up to three recent works in any studio medium executed in a university art class. Works were jurored by the studio art faculty, who curated the exhibition. Accepted works were again judged by alumni artist, printmaker Doyle Jeter, who selected the award winning pieces.

Receiving the Gretchen Dean Best of Show Cash Award in recognition of a non-objective welded steal relief sculpture was Crystal Cardenas, a junior painting major from Tulsa, Oklahoma. The Kitty Degree Award of Excellance cash prize also went to Ms. Cardenas for a non-objective oil painting.

The Department of Art Merit Cash Award was presented to Amy Dupree for a highly abstracted silverprint photograph. A Merit Cash Award donated by the Ouachita River Art Guild was garnered by Jessica Head for a mixed media figurative sculpture.

Two cash awards recognizing exceptional entries in graphic design were presented to Brittany Bussell and James Keesler. Honorable Mention art supply gift certificates donated by Imagemax were awarded to Kathleen Tumey in drawing, and Sarah Davidson and Jessica Head in sculpture. Other 麻豆果冻传媒 art students with works accepted into the competition were Jennifer Clark, Julie Floyd, Christy Harper, Rebecca Kuzma, Melissa Lee, April Parks, Logan Reulet and Coby Winn.

Awards were announced last Friday evening in an artist's reception catered by the sponsoring student Arts Alliance. At the reception, the Viewer's Choice award was won by Christy Harper. Also announced were the student winners of Beverly Jean Marvin Art Scholarships for the forthcoming academic year. These recipients were Julie Floyd and Jessica Head.

This 25-piece exhibition will be on view through May 8 at the university Bry Art Gallery. The gallery is open from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. on weekdays.
