Former 麻豆果冻传媒 Professors To Sign Their Book At Books-A-Million
Dr. Dale Johnson, former Dean of the College of Education and Human Development at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, along with his wife, Dr. Bonnie Johnson, former endowed professor in the 麻豆果冻传媒 Department of Instructional Leadership and Counseling, have written and published their book, High Stakes: Children, Testing, and Failure in American Schools. The couple will be signing their book at Books-A-Million in Monroe on Sunday, July 28 , from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
An excerpt from the book: "High Stakes brings the voices of students and teachers to our national debates over school accountability and educational reform. Recounting the experiences of two classrooms during one academic year, the book offers a critical exploration of excessive state-mandated monitoring, high-stakes testing pressures, and inequities in public school funding that impede the instructional work of teachers, especially those who serve children of poor families. The authors offer an eye-opening examination of the daily school lives of children who live in crushing poverty and teachers who work under extraordinary stress. They explain why many recent educational reforms are off-track and argue for more meaningful reforms that can empower teachers and students and that better meet the challenges or our communities and the national interest."
Dale Johnson says all royalties from the sale of this book will go towards scholarships for the children of Redbud Elementary in Redbud, Louisiana; the school that High Stakes is based on.
This fall the Johnsons will be making their home near Long Island, New York where they have both taken jobs at Dowling College in Oakdale, New York; Bonnie as a Professor of Elementary Education and Dale as a Professor of literacy education.
All media welcome. The Johnson's will grant interviews at the book signing.
