ULM Assistant Professor Presents Published Work at Book Festival
Dr. Gordon E. Harvey, Assistant Professor in the Department of History and Government at The University of Louisiana at Monroe recently presented a one-hour session on his new book, "A Question of Justice", at the Southern Festival of Books in Nashville. Harvey gave a solo presentation to about 20 people.
Harvey said, "The nice thing about my book is its history from the 1970's. It's southern politics dealing mainly with Southern Governors. There were people in my session that actually lived through the time I had written about. It felt more like a conversation rather than a presentation."
The festival showcased around 150 authors, from kids books to fiction to history. Paul Hemphill, Tony Horowitz, and many other authors were there.
Harvey said the experience was a true honor, "It was a great privilege to even be asked, I felt almost uncomfortable because I am not used to this. I am terribly confidant in front of a classroom, but when you get in front of other historians, it's kind of an anxious feeling. There were so many luminaries who attended this event and spoke on their work. To be included in any way in a conference along with literary stars such as Rick Bragg is something I am very proud to be part of."
