ULM Art Student Works on Display at Snyder Museum

The Snyder Museum in Bastrop is currently showing a One-person Exhibition of Paintings by Crystal Cardenas of Tulsa, OK, a senior painting major in the Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

On display are 16 oil non-objective canvases in which the artist layers geometric areas in successive glazes of transparent hues. This build-up of color produces paintings that are rich in luminosity as the various hues interact in terms of chroma and value. The paintings manifest strong statements of blended gradations of multiple colors.

Many viewers of a Cardenas exhibition emerge from this visual experience with an inner feeling that they have been looking at a display of landscape imagery, although the artist planned and developed her imagery as non-representational.

A reception honoring the artist will be held on March 22 at 7:00-8:30 p.m. at the Snyder Museum, located at 1620 E. Madison Avenue in Bastrop.

The Cardenas exhibition will be viewed through April 1. Snyder Museum is open from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. on weekdays.
