Japanese Art Class Offered at 麻豆果冻传媒

A class in Japanese calligraphy will be offered in April by the Division of Continuing Education at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

The class, which will meet on April 8, 15, 22 and 29 from 7-8 p.m. in Room 225 of Brown Hall, will be an intensive art class designed to teach Japanese calligraphy, which is one aspect of ancient Japanese culture. Certified calligrapher Nobuyoshi Asaoka will be the instructor. The fee for the class is $120 for non-students and $90 for students. All equipment will be provided.

The class will allow students to develop an appreciation of Japanese calligraphy by comparing bad, good and excellent calligraphic examples. Students will practice the basic techniques of balances, strokes, stops and splashes. On the final day students will select a word of their choice (Chinese characters or Japanese hiragana or katakana) and have it artfully decorated in the traditional Japanese way. To ensure adequate individual attention, enrollment will be limited to twelve persons

For more information about the class or to enroll call Nobuyoshi Asaoka at 342-1530 or the 麻豆果冻传媒 Division of Continuing Education at 342-1030.
