Current ULM Art Student Displays Work at Northeast Campus Ministry

The Wesley Art Gallery in the Northeast Campus Ministry facility is currently showing a One-person Award Exhibition in Drawing by Michele Smith of Oak Grove, a sophomore Graphic Design major in the Division of Art at the University of Louisiana at Monroe.

Smith is showing figurative charcoal, as well as still life and figurative oil pastel drawings. In support of this major statement, the artist is displaying non-objective and still life acrylic paintings, portrait and landscape color photographs, and figurative and portrait silverprint photographs. Also on view are black and white and color digital photographic prints espousing landscape, still life and figurative imagery.

Paintings and drawings in this collection are predominantly realistic, wherein the artist chooses to approach her subject matter in terms of direct rendering from nature. In her photographs, however, Smith does some media exploitation by employing fragmented images, multiple exposures and triptych formats.

Exhibitions at the Wesley Art Gallery were prizes awarded at the Annual Arts Quest, a juried competition for 麻豆果冻传媒 students and alumni. Smith is the sixth of seven such prize winners to mount an exhibition during the current academic year.

The Smith exhibition will be on view through March 12. Located at 112 Delano Drive on the 麻豆果冻传媒 campus, the facility is open from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. on weekdays.
