Author Adrian Nicole LeBlanc To Speak During 麻豆果冻传媒's Women's History Month

Adrian LeBlanc, national award-winning author of Random Family: Love, Drugs, Trouble and Coming of Age in the Bronx, will speak at the University of Louisiana at Monroe on Tuesday, March 30th at 5:30 p.m. This event is open to the public and is part of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Women's History Month. It will be held in the University Conference Center on the 7th floor of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Library.

LeBlanc will discuss highlights from her book, which was voted No. 1 Nonfiction book of 2003 by Entertainment Weekly and Best Nonfiction book by People Magazine. Her book is also set to be made into a motion picture by "Traffic" Director Steven Soderbergh.

The inside cover of the book summarizes the story like this, "Random Family tells the American outlaw saga lurking behind the headlines of gangsta glamour, gold-drenched drug dealers, and street-corner society. With an immediacy made possible only after ten years of reporting, Adrian Nicole LeBlanc immerses the reader in the mind-boggling intricacies of the little-known ghetto world. She charts the tumultuous cycle of the generations, as girls become mothers, mothers become grandmothers, boys become criminals, and hope struggles against deprivation.

Adrian Nicole LeBlanc is a frequent contributor to The New York Times Sunday Magazine. Her work has been published in The New Yorker, Esquire, Elle, SPIN, The Source, The Village Voice and other magazines.

She has appeared on Oprah, NPR, and the Charlie Rose Show, and holds a BA in sociology from Smith College, a Master of philosophy and modern literature from Oxford University and a Master of law studies from Yale Law School.

Adrian is Currently a Visiting Scholar at the New York University School of Journalism and has been the recipient of numerous awards, including a Bunting fellowship from Radcliffe and a MacDowell Colony residency. Adrian Nicole LeBlanc lives in Manhattan. Random Family is her first book.
