Alum honored for work with underprivileged children
University of Louisiana at Monroe alum Joseph Arnold (M.Ed. in counseling ‘94) was honored in the July/August issue of Atlanta Woman in an article focusing on his devotion to improving the lives of neglected children.
In 1994, Arnold founded the Positive Growth Boys Home in Clarkston, Ga. for neglected, abused or abandoned youth between the ages of 8 – 21. He runs the organization in addition to his career as a senior counselor at Grady High School in Midtown, Ga.
Arnold attributes his internship at Methodist’s Children’s Home in Ruston as inspiring him to create the means of providing worthwhile and long-term support to youth in need, and particularly to boys, as they are often perceived as coping with more difficulty at that time in life.
Positive Growth, Inc. works in cooperation with the Department of Family and Children Services and the Department of Juvenile Justice to provide a loving, stable living environment where these boys learn how to adjust and become accountable for their behavior as they take their place in society. The organization has two homes in Clarkston.
Arnold served as a graduate assistant football coach while at Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½. He received his bachelor’s of science degree from Western Kentucky University in 1989, where he was a standout football player.
For the past 10 years, Arnold also served as a Little League football coach and is currently president of the Scottdale Youth Athletic Association.
