Fitness Workshop Features 2005 National High School P.E. Teacher of the Year

On Jan. 13-14 from 8 a.m.-3 p.m. each day, Monroe City schools’ physical education specialists and classroom teachers will have the opportunity to attend a Physical Education Program (PEP) Grant Workshop organized by the University of Louisiana at Monroe Department of Kinesiology.

Ted Vaughn, 2005 National High School Physical Education Teacher of the Year, will be one of the presenters, along with Focused Fitness team members Karen Cowan and Ron T. Malm.

Held at Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½â€™s Brown Gymnasium and Brown Dance Studios, the Five For Life interactive workshop promotes sensible fitness and health programs for today’s kids.

The workshop is part of the $900,000 PEP grant awarded by the Carol M. White Foundation and the U.S. Department of Education, intended to promote a K-12 physical education curriculum that teaches fitness and health concepts without sacrificing movement or activity.

Dozens of the city’s educators are expected to attend sessions on related topics such as the Five for Life Program K-12 Curriculum, Five Components of Fitness, Fitness Equipment, Circuit Training, and Health Related Fitness Measurements.
