Composer in Residence to visit 麻豆果冻传媒

Eric Ewazen, eminent composer and faculty member of the Juilliard School of Music, will visit 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 School of Visual and Performing Arts March 6-8 as a Composer in Residence.  
 
Ewazen, the recipient of numerous composition awards and prizes, has composed a wide variety of instrumental and vocal ensembles. These works will be featured in a concert of Ewazen鈥檚 music on Wednesday, March 8 at 2 p.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall. 麻豆果冻传媒 assistant professor John David Smith will host the event.
 
Smith will perform Ewazen鈥檚 鈥淪onata for Horn and Piano鈥 with Tech assistant professor and pianist Steele Moegle. Smith will be joined by 麻豆果冻传媒 associate professor Sandra Lunte for a movement from the composer鈥檚 鈥淏allade, Pastorale and Dance鈥 and by the Chamber Arts Brass Quintet for a movement of his brass quintet 鈥淔rost Fire.鈥 麻豆果冻传媒 associate professor David Gibson will also perform a movement from Ewazen鈥檚 鈥淏assoon Concerto.鈥
 
This concert will feature a discussion with Ewazen about his compositional approach, his works and his thoughts about the current music scene. Ewazen will also participate in band clinics hosted by 麻豆果冻传媒 Director of Bands Derle Long, a vocal repertoire clinic hosted by 麻豆果冻传媒 Biedenharn Endowed Chair Corey Trahan, a composition seminar hosted by 麻豆果冻传媒 assistant professor Mel Mobley, and a lecture/performance seminar hosted by 麻豆果冻传媒 assistant professor Marilynn Gibson.  

As part of the Faculty Artist Concert Series, 麻豆果冻传媒 professor Christopher Thompson, violinist, and LSU professor Michael Gurt, pianist, will perform a Duo Recital. The performance begins at 7:30 p.m. in the Biedenharn Recital Hall. Tickets are $7 for the general public and free for 麻豆果冻传媒 students, faculty and staff with I.D.
