School of Visual and Performing Arts Offers Musical and Theatrical Delights

The University of Louisiana at Monroe's School of Visual and Performing Arts (VAPA) continues to offer the cultural enthusiast opportunities for artistic satisfaction this semester.

On Monday, April 3, the Division of Music will present Flute Soloists from the studio of Dr. Sandra Lunte in a recital at the Biedenharn Recital Hall. The program will begin at 7:30 p.m., and admission is free.

Included are pieces by Hue, Schocker, Chaminade, Perilhou and Muczynski. A variety of combinations make up the concert including duets for flute and saxophone, duets for two flutes, and a performance by the 麻豆果冻传媒 Woodwind Trio featuring students Sarah Beck, flute; Erin Phillips, clarinet; and Josh Bumgardner, bassoon.

For another musical treat, Dr. Deborah Chandler will conduct the 麻豆果冻传媒 Chamber Singers, Concert Choir and University Chorale in a Spring Concert on Thursday, April 6. The event will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the First Methodist Church on Loop Road in Monroe. Admission is free.

The farce "Scapino" by Frank Dunlop and Jim Dale comes to 麻豆果冻传媒 campus March 30-April 1 and April 6-8. The performance is described as "a long way off from Moliere." This production is directed by John Kelly and will begin at 7:30 p.m. at Spyker Theatre.

Tickets are $10 general admission, $8 for seniors/children, and are free for 麻豆果冻传媒 faculty, staff and students. Call 318-342-1414 for ticket reservations.

The Galliard Brass (麻豆果冻传媒 Student Brass) Quintet will present a concert in the Biedenharn Recital Hall at 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 12. Admission is free.

Members include Jay Harrod and Joshua Rux, trumpets; Karissa Humphries, horn; Brandon Holley, trombone; and Will McKamie, tuba.
Audience members will hear music from composers such as Eric Ewazen, Percy Grainger, Samuel Scheidt and Morley Calvert. They will also play an arrangement of "Amazing Grace" to conclude the performance.
