KEDM to kick off fall membership drive

KEDM Public Radio will begin its annual fall membership drive on Saturday, Oct. 14 at 7 a.m. and conclude on Saturday, Oct. 21. at noon. Local politicians, as well as other community leaders, will join the KEDM staff on-air in hosting the fundraising efforts, which will be coordinated with National Public Radio and American Public Media.

KEDM depends on the financial support of its listeners and corporate underwriters to assist in keeping quality programming, such as its in-depth news coverage and variety of entertainment programs, on the air, said Cynthia Perdue, general manager.

“KEDM provides exemplary news coverage on the local, national, and international scale, but that comes with a cost,” Perdue said. “Our listeners tell us KEDM’s news programming is the primary reason that they listen to and support the station. The amount of that support during this fall drive will help to determine the quality and quantity of future news programming. Our goal for this membership drive is $55,000.”

Over 200 volunteers and businesses will participate in the fundraising drive by answering the phones, guest hosting on-air, or donating food for volunteers. Susan Allain, development director, encourages KEDM’s listeners to participate in the fund drive.

Allain said, “We invite our listeners to join the KEDM staff and the community in supporting your listening habits by calling in and becoming a member or by renewing your membership.”

KEDM airs such noted public radio shows as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Fresh Air, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, and Performance Today, as well as local programs such as Lagniappe, Blue Monday and its award-winning local news.
