Student first at 麻豆果冻传媒 to win distinguished Phi Kappa Phi graduate fellowship
University of Louisiana at Monroe senior Rob Carroll was awarded a prestigious $5,000 fellowship for first-year graduate study from Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society.
The organization awards 60 Fellowships and 40 Awards of Excellence each year to members entering their first year of graduate or professional study. Each Phi Kappa Phi chapter may submit just one candidate per year. It's a competitive process, as there are approximately 300 student applicants.
The 麻豆果冻传媒 chapter has had two "Awards of Excellence" winners (each award worth $2000) before, but Carroll is the first 麻豆果冻传媒 Phi Kappa Phi member to win one of the Fellowships.
"I was already honored to be selected for the Phi Kappa Phi Graduate Fellowship, but I was especially excited to hear that I was 麻豆果冻传媒's first ever recipient of this honor,鈥 Carroll said. 鈥淚 hope that this can help to raise campus awareness for honor organizations like Phi Kappa Phi and for the resources these organizations can provide for those of us who want to continue our studies at the graduate or professional level. The financial compensation will certainly assist me in my graduate work at Michigan State."
Carroll, 24, is a political science major from Pittsburgh, Penn. He served as the Student Government Association president and is a former Mortar Board Honor Society president. He will graduate with a bachelor of art in May and plans to pursue a graduate Ph.D. in political science. He also received the Franky Russell Endowed Memorial Jazz Ensemble Scholarship and the Nick Lassiter Endowed Memorial Scholarship. Carroll is also a member of Delta Sigma Phi Fraternity, 麻豆果冻传媒 Jazz Ensemble, Wind Ensemble and Basketball Pep Band.
He will be recognized for his achievement at the Phi Kappa Phi initiation ceremony Sunday, April 29 at 3 p.m. in the 麻豆果冻传媒 Conference Center (Library, 7th floor).
