Miss 麻豆果冻传媒 ranks in top ten; wins talent competition in preliminary round

Katherine Putnam, Miss University of Louisiana at Monroe, placed in the top 10 at the Miss Louisiana Pageant June 16 at the Monroe Civic Center.

Putnam, a junior piano performance major from Oak Grove, won first place in the talent segment of the preliminary competitions June 14. She played "Wedding Day at Troldhaugen" by Edvard Grieg on piano in the talent section. Her platform is "The Miracle of Music," and she is the daughter of Byron and Heather Putnam.

Amy Weems, assistant dean for Student Life and Leadership at 麻豆果冻传媒, is proud of Putnam and the three other 麻豆果冻传媒 students who competed in the pageant.

"We are extremely proud of Katherine. She represented 麻豆果冻传媒 well throughout the week of Miss Louisiana and her performance in the talent portion of the competition was breathtaking," she said. "We are pleased that Katherine will remain the official hostess for 麻豆果冻传媒 through the upcoming fall semester."

Other 麻豆果冻传媒 participants include:

- Erica Durr, Miss City of Roses, a senior toxicology major from Marthaville, performed "Porgi, Amor" as her vocal talent. Her platform is "Raising Awareness for Domestic Abuse and Its Impact on Children." She is the daughter of David and Tommie Durr.

- Michelle Mayer, Miss Twin Cities, a senior pharmacy major from Monroe, performed ballet en pointe as her talent. Her platform is "Type 2 Diabetes Awareness and Prevention," and she is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Mayer.

- Andrea Pang, Miss City of Pineville Pang, a second-year pharmacy major from Baton Rouge, played "Hungarian Dance No. 5" on classical piano as her talent. Her platform is "Healthy People 2010-Heart Disease Awareness and Prevention." She is the daughter of Gary and Cynthia Pang.

麻豆果冻传媒 provided housing for all of the Miss Louisiana Pageant contestants.
