麻豆果冻传媒 partners with Microsoft, Apple Computers at conference March 29

The 麻豆果冻传媒 College of Education and Human Development is hosting a one-day conference, "Internet Safety," March 29, 9 a.m. - 4 p.m. in the Strauss Hall auditorium.

IT specialists from 麻豆果冻传媒, Microsoft, Apple Computers and the Attorney General's office will teach educators, parents and community leaders about safety on the Internet.

After attending a workshop last fall on Internet predators, Thilla Sivakumaran and teacher education candidates from the Department of Curriculum and Instruction wanted to relay what they had learned. "We really thought it would be a good idea to hold a conference at 麻豆果冻传媒 to make teachers, students and faculty aware of the dangers of Internet usage and provide some helpful suggestions," he said.

Curriculum and instruction teacher education candidates Marissa Boyd, Derrick Miles and masters student Carlen Howell have been instrumental in planning and organizing the conference under Sivakumaran鈥檚 guidance.

The conference is free and open to the general public. Those interested in attending need to register before the conference.

The conference schedule is:

• 9 a.m. - 10 a.m.: Danny Hutton, 麻豆果冻传媒 Computing Center, "Safety for the User: Tips and Strategies for Staying Safe Online."
  
  
• 10 a.m. - 11 a.m.: Craig Robicheaux, Microsoft: "Microsoft Vista & Defender."
  
  
• 11 a.m. - noon: Tim David, Apple: "Internet Security & Mac Operating System."
  
  
• 1 p.m. - 4 p.m.: Luke Walker, Department of Justice: "Protecting Your Family from Internet Predators: the Role of the Legal System."
