Greek Life announces spring semester award winners

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Office of Greek Life recently announced results of its productive and festive spring semester.

Highlights include: GreekFest 2007 鈥� Greek Week included a torch run, "Meet-the-Greeks" sno-cone social, blood drive, canoe races, games, and a kickball tournament with Big Brothers Big Sisters; the Athenian Awards Banquet 鈥� chapters included in the Interfraternity Council, the National Panhellenic Conference, and the National Pan-Hellenic Council filled out extensive applications and received awards in various categories; and the NPHC Step Show.

"I am so impressed by the hard work and dedication shown by the Greeks on this campus,鈥� said Rachel Goad, coordinator of Greek Life. 鈥淲e had such a successful semester. Greek Life is continuing to grow at 麻豆果冻传媒, and I know recruitment in the fall will be a success as well."

Results from the Athenian Awards Banquet, held April 3 include:

• Outstanding Community Service Project Award -- Kappa Delta
  
  
• Outstanding Public Relations Project Award -- Delta Sigma Theta
  
  
• Outstanding Risk Management Award (tie) -- Kappa Delta and Phi Mu
  
  
• Outstanding Alumnae Service Award -- Pi Kappa Alpha
  
  
• Outstanding New Member of the Year (tie) -- Christina Porter (Alpha Kappa Alpha) and Alysha Lee (Phi Mu)
  
  
• Greek Woman of the Year -- Corrie Darnell (Kappa Delta)
  
  
• Greek Man of the Year -- James Grigus (Pi Kappa Alpha)
  
  
• 2007 Chapter of the Year -- Kappa Delta

The Greek Week Awards honored:

• 1st Place Overall (Male) -- Delta Sigma Phi
  
  
• 1st Place Overall (Female) -- Sigma Gamma Rho
  
  
• 2nd Place Overall (Male) -- Pi Kappa Alpha
  
  
• 2nd Place Overall (Female) -- Phi Mu
