Student Health Services at the University of Louisiana at Monroe recognizes that flu season is quickly approaching. Flu shots will be available for 麻豆果冻传媒 students, faculty and staff, beginning Oct. 8 for a cost of $15.
鈥淲e are excited about this year鈥檚 opportunity to provide vaccinations to not only our student population but to faculty and staff as well,鈥 said Marge Michel, clinic manager. 鈥淲ith the high incidence of absenteeism, and hospitalization associated with influenza, and the potential for its severe complications, we urge everyone to strongly consider vaccination. The School of Nursing will be assisting us in the administration of vaccinations, and we are thankful for their help in improving the health and wellness on our campus.鈥
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, flu vaccination is considered the most effective method for preventing influenza and can reduce chances of getting the flu by as much as 90 percent. The best time to get vaccinated is October or November, as it may take up to two weeks after vaccination for the body to establish adequate antibodies to combat the disease if a person is exposed.
SHS staff urges individuals to come by as soon as possible鈥攙accine supplies are limited and will be administered on a first come, first served basis.
For more information, call Student Health Services at (318) 342-1651 or visit the SHS in person for vaccination. They are located in the Student Health and Counseling Center at 1140 University Ave.
