Aviation program gains initial accreditation

Aviation and the University of Louisiana at Monroe have been linked since 1939, when 麻豆果冻传媒 (then Northeast Junior College) became one of 404 colleges to participate in the Civilian Pilot Training Program, which trained pilots in World War II.

Now, the Bachelor of Science in Aviation is one of only three accredited aviation programs in Louisiana. 麻豆果冻传媒's program recently received initial accreditation in aviation, which is housed in the College of Business Administration, from the Aviation Accreditation Board International.

Meeting the stringent accreditation standards illustrates the program鈥檚 many strengths, said Dr. Ron Berry, 麻豆果冻传媒 College of Business Administration Dean.

Accreditation from AABI indicates our aviation program is among the best and that we meet high standards of excellence. Our aviation program has a long history of success in preparing its graduates for a wide variety of opportunities in the industry. We believe even more opportunities for our students will become available as our external constituents learn of this outstanding accomplishment.鈥�

麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 aviation program was designed to satisfy the expectations of a wide range of quality standards relating to strategic management of resources, interactions of faculty and students in the educational process, and achievement of learning goals in degree programs. During the accreditation process, academic and industry representatives, with detailed knowledge of aviation education, visited and evaluated the program, applying accreditation standards that are widely-accepted in the educational community.

In 1967, Northeast offered the first four year Bachelor of Science degree in Aviation. Today, the ULM Aviation Program works in conjunction with Monroe Air Center, a Part 141 flight school on the Monroe Regional Airport. Students take flight instruction at Monroe Municipal Airport and ground school on the campus.

The Aviation Department now has three new full motion flight simulators from Fidelity Flight Simulation, Inc. qualified by the FAA.
