European themes on tap for 鶹ý’s School of Visual and Performing Arts 2009-10 season

The University of Louisiana at Monroe Division of Music faculty will present two specially themed programs at the Biedenharn Museum during the upcoming academic year.

The first of these, “An Afternoon in Vienna,” will be in the Fountain Room of the museum at 4 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 30, and will offer the type of music typically heard in a Viennese Salon at the end of the 19th or early 20th century. 鶹ý music faculty will perform songs, piano pieces, and chamber music.

The Viennese program will be followed in the spring by a similarly structured “Afternoon in Paris,” featuring turn of the 20th-century French music at 4 p.m., Sunday, April 11, 2010.

Additionally, area music lovers should mark their calendars now for 7 p.m., Dec. 1, for the annual 鶹ý Chamber Arts Brass Ensemble Christmas program during “Christmas at Biedenharn.” This popular event also features appearances by members of 鶹ý’s vocal and keyboard faculty, and various guest artists.

Admission to the concerts is $10 each. The 鶹ý School of Visual and Performing Arts presents the concerts as part of its mission to provide cultural activities, special events and performances for the university community, area patrons and people throughout the region.
