New Healthy Hawks group focuses on health topics; meet Feb. 17, 19

University of Louisiana at Monroe Student Health Services, in partnership with the Kinesiology Department, announces its newest student organization, Healthy Hawks.

Healthy Hawks is a peer-to-peer group affiliated with The BACCHUS Network™ - a nationally-recognized and highly-acclaimed collegiate peer education group focusing on comprehensive health and safety initiatives.

The organization is open to all campus majors.

A meeting to learn more about Healthy Hawks and the new “Sexual Health@鶹ý” program will be held from 12 to 1 p.m. Feb. 17 and 19. The Healthy Hawks student membership recruitment dates will be from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. The meeting is open to any interested 鶹ý faculty or staff members, and brown bag lunches are welcome.

Research has shown BACCHUS to be an effective method for students to advance their pre-professional skills by promoting wellness to their peers. The faculty-trained Healthy Hawk peer health educators prepare for jobs by teaching on a variety of topics relating to college health and wellness.

Healthy Hawks will be initially focused on sexual health topics, with a goal to include other areas of health and safety awareness in the future. Students will have an opportunity to take an interactive role in boosting their personal health awareness and contributing to the overall healthy morale of the university.
