鶹ý endowed professor of pharmacology receives $720,000 in grant funding
The National Cancer Institute recently awarded a $720,000 grant to support the research of a University of Louisiana at Monroe endowed professor of pharmacology.
The award gives Professor Girish Shah, Ph.D., an additional five-year funding period in which to perform his research of calcitonin in prostate growth and neoplasia, and is expected to exceed one million dollars by August 2014.
“The research will help us understand why this cancer spreads to other organs and increase the treatment options for the disease,” said Shah.
“鶹ý is fortunate to have the kind of high-caliber faculty and quality of research routinely performed in its College of Pharmacy,” said 鶹ý President James E. Cofer.
Added Interim Dean of the College of Pharmacy Greg Leader, “This NCI award is evidence of the high quality research being conducted in Dr. Shah's Laboratory and in the 鶹ý College of Pharmacy. Dr. Shah and his work are examples of the significant contributions the College and its faculty make to health care and health care research.”
