KEDM Spring membership drive begins March 28
KEDM 90.3 FM, a public radio station housed at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, has scheduled its spring membership drive to begin at 7 a.m., March 28.
Hundreds of volunteers are needed during the fundraising drive to answer phones, serve as on-air guest hosts, or donate food. KEDM Development Director Susan Allain encouraged regular listeners to serve as volunteers and “support their listening habits” by becoming a member or by renewing existing memberships.
Local politicians, as well as other community leaders, will be among those joining the on-air radio staff to solicit much needed funds during the pitch breaks. Fundraising efforts will run through noon on April 4.
KEDM depends on the financial support of its listeners and corporate underwriters to assist in keeping its quality programming on the air. KEDM provides in-depth coverage of news and a variety of entertainment programs and music genres every day.
“KEDM provides exemplary news coverage on the local, national, and international scale, but that comes with a cost,” said General Manager Joel Willer.
“Our listeners tell us KEDM’s news programming is the primary reason that they listen to and support the station. The amount of that support during this coming spring drive will help to determine the quality and quantity of future news programming,” said Willer.
Willer said the goal for this year’s membership drive is $50,000.
KEDM airs such noted National Public Radio programs as Morning Edition, All Things Considered, Market Place, Fresh Air, Car Talk, Prairie Home Companion, Wait Wait Don't Tell Me and Performance Today, as well as local programs such as Lagniappe, Blue Monday, Straight No Chaser and award-winning local news.
