Bontty discusses the Christians of Egypt at Lincoln Parish Library
Monica Bontty, assistant professor of history at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, will present a paper titled “The Disciples of St. Mark: Christians of Egypt” Thursday, May 21, at the Lincoln Parish Library, beginning at 6:30 p.m.
Bontty described the presentation’s focus. “Egypt, the land of the pharaohs is known for pyramids, temples and mummies. However, it is also home to some of the earliest Christians. This talk presents the genesis and meaning of Egyptian Christianity. The Egyptian Christian Church dates from just after the time of Christ and has spread beyond Egypt to Europe, Australia and even to the state of Louisiana.”
This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Lincoln Parish Library. The public is invited to attend.
