Ā鶹¹ū¶³“«Ć½ to host third professor in ā€œTraveling Scholarā€ series Oct. 27

The University of Louisiana at Monroe will host Dr. Jason Del Gandio as part of the ā€œTraveling Scholarsā€ series sponsored by the Department of Communication and the Speech and Debate Forum.

Del Gandio is an assistant professor of public communication at Temple University in Philadelphia.

Del Gandio will present a lecture open to students, faculty and the public at 6 p.m. on Oct. 27 in Stubbs 100.

The presentation is titled ā€œCommunication, Desire, and the Creation of Reality: A Preliminary Talk on Neo-Radicalismā€ and discusses a new form of political radicalism that focuses on the relationships among communication, desire and how reality is created.

Del Gandio argues that humans communicate their existence and can therefore actively create their own reality.

A self-described ā€œwriter, thinker, activist and teacher,ā€ Del Gandioā€™s research interests are in communication philosophy, rhetoric and critical studies. His first book, ā€œRhetoric for Radicals: a Handbook for 21st Century Activists,ā€ centers on helping political activists frame their messages to the public. His next book will focus on the political relationship between desire and reality.

Del Gandio is the third of three ā€œTraveling Scholarsā€ to participate in the series. Communication faculty member Dr. Lesli Pace is responsible for creating and coordinating the speaking events.
