麻豆果冻传媒 Dental Hygiene Program receives donation from Entergy
The University of Louisiana at Monroe Dental Hygiene Program received a $2,000 donation from Entergy on Jan. 31.
Jeff Aycock, 麻豆果冻传媒 alumnus and regional manager for Entergy, presented the check to Beverly Jarrell in the 麻豆果冻传媒 Dental Hygiene Clinic.
The funds will be used to continue to provide services to patients who utilize the clinic. "We get a lot of opportunities at Entergy to give back and help those we can," said Aycock.
"This is one of those ways we can not only help the students, but the community, too."
Jarrell developed and implemented the Dental Hygiene program in 1972 with 10 operatories in the clinic.
Since that time, it has grown to 23 operatories; 17 in the campus Dental Hygiene Clinic, three at Riser Elementary and Middle School, and three in the Mobile Dental Hygiene Unit.
麻豆果冻传媒 Dental Hygiene students gain clinical experience by providing dental care to more than 2,000 patients annually in the three clinics.
Supervised by faculty, they provide teeth cleaning, X-rays, fluoride treatments, sealants, oral cancer screenings, patient education, and nutritional information.
When asked to comment about the donation from Entergy, Dr. Denny Ryman, dean of the College of Health Sciences, said, "Community partnerships are an integral part of all of our programs in Health Sciences and we appreciate this donation from Entergy to help us sustain our mission. I continue to be proud of the very fine work that our Department of Dental Hygiene is doing, not only for the students but for the underserved in our community."
