Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ invites public to join in Black History events during February
In a month of remembrance and celebration, The University of Louisiana at Monroe will embark on a series of events in honor of Black History Month.
Throughout the entire month of February, Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ will provide educational and entertaining concerts and movies, as well as guest speakers and artists who have all made viable contributions to the African American community.
All events are free and open to the public.
Events being held are as follows:
- Friday, Feb. 3, 7-9 p.m.
“Celebration of African Americans in the Arts" - Dr. Chandler and special guest artists bass Leon Turner and soprano Brenda Wimberly will perform in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall.
- Monday, Feb. 6, 7-8:30 p.m.
Assistant Director of Photography for the Dallas Morning News and Pulitzer Prize winner and Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ alumnus, Irwin Thompson will speak in the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Conference Center, located on the 7th floor of the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Library.
- Tuesday, Feb. 7, 8:30 p.m.
Movie – "Eve's Bayou" in Stubbs Hall, Room 100.
- Wednesday, Feb. 8, 12-1 p.m.
African American Contributions to the World - various speakers will give presentations on the second floor of the Student Union Building.
- Wednesday, Feb. 8, 5-7 p.m.
Black History Artist Reception & Art Exhibit in the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Conference Center, located on the 7th floor of the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Libraryr.
- Thursday, Feb. 9, 7-8:30 p.m.
Don Hudson, executive editor of the Decatur (Ala.) Daily, and Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ alumnus, will speak in the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Conference Center, located on the 7th floor of the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Library.
- Monday, Feb. 13, 6-7 p.m.
Dr. Thomas Aiello, author of "The Kings of Casino Park," which chronicles the Monroe Monarchs baseball team, will speak on the second floor of the Student Union Building.

Sunday, Feb. 26 4-5:30 p.m.
Song of Freedom Gospel Concert in the Emy-Lou Biedenharn Recital Hall. -
Tuesday, Feb. 28, 7-8 p.m.
Traveling Scholar, Rachel Hastings In Brown Auditorium. -
Wednesday, Feb. 29, 7-8 p.m.
Open Arts Singers and Dancers in Brown Auditorium.
