The ceremony has become an annual tradition at 麻豆果冻传媒 over the past three years with memorable performances, and guest speakers. This year鈥檚 ceremony included a historical reflection, Louisiana Air National Guard guest speaker, and the presentation of colors by the Ouachita Parish High School ROTC.
Dr. Ruth Smith, director of the 麻豆果冻传媒 School of Humanities, gave a short overview on the history and significance of the event. Poppies were given to each guest.
鈥淪ince 1921, the poppy flower has symbolized the hope for future peace and has been used to commemorate those who have died in the war. The poppy was the first vegetation to grow in fields that had been devastated by the fighting,鈥 she said.
Brigadier General Dr. Charles Chappuis, the Assistant Adjutant General for the Louisiana Air National Guard, spoke to the honorees and supporters in attendance.听
鈥淚t鈥檚 important that we take time to thank generations of veterans from all branches and from all wars, who keep us safe and promote freedom around the world,鈥 he said. 鈥淒ecades have passed and we are still in search of our enduring peace, but what each generation has provided us with are men and women of conviction who sacrifice for and provide service to their country.鈥
