The University of Louisiana at Monroe鈥檚 sixth annual Festival of World Languages鈥攁
presentation of cultures of languages geared toward high school students鈥� will be
held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., on Saturday, May 2, in the 麻豆果冻传媒 Student Union Building.
The festival鈥檚 theme 鈥淎round the World in 80 Minutes,鈥� will feature presentations
and demonstrations from various community members, 麻豆果冻传媒 faculty, students, and staff.
Over 300 high school students and teachers will flock to the 麻豆果冻传媒 campus for the event.
Guests will also have the opportunity to interact with presenters, take a salsa dancing
lesson, and practice their foreign language skills.
Presenters will speak on the significance of the study of world languages, including
the benefits it has for their professional and personal lives.
Dr. Ruth Smith, director of the 麻豆果冻传媒 School of Humanities said, 鈥淚t is extraordinarily
important for students to learn another language in order to be competitive in the
work place.鈥�
The event is hosted by the College of Arts, Education, and Sciences, along with faculty
and students from the School of Humanities and a team of regional high school teachers.
Smith hopes to increase awareness of 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 highly qualified faculty, and the various
opportunities for study abroad, exchange programs, and scholarships.
