Campus meets the real world during Career Week

5 days to prepare students on how to apply for jobs.

Career Connections Week 2018 is set to begin Sunday, Feb. 18 and run through Thursday, Feb. 22 on the campus of the University of Louisiana Monroe. This exciting week is sponsored by theOffice of Career Connections, under the leadership of Director Roslynn B. Pogue.

鈥淐areer Week is a culmination of activities that offer our students and alumni with five days of career advancement services,鈥 Pogue said. 鈥淭he programs scheduled for the week will offer career development advice and resources from professionals across the region. 鈥淐areer Week is part of the Office of Career Connection's continued mission in being the primary resource for our students and alumni in career services, programs and counseling as well as actively pursuing partnerships with employers and the community.听

The following is an abbreviated schedule of events for Career Connections. For full details, visitulm.edu/careerconnections.

To have a resume reviewed prior to Career Week, you must have an appointment scheduled by Friday, Feb. 16. No resumes will be reviewed during Career Week except at the Resume Review at Starbucks on Monday, Feb. 19.

When: Sunday, February 18

Time: 6:30-9:30 p.m.

What: JCPenney Suit-Up Event

Location: JCPenney - Pecanland Mall

Bring 麻豆果冻传媒 ID to receive 40 percent off men鈥檚 and women鈥檚 career dress apparel and shoes.

Stop by Sephora for a chance to win prizes and receive a free mini makeover.

Free salon consultation and Xpress Bar hair touch-ups.

When: Monday, February 19

Time: 8:30-10:30 a.m. and 2- 4 p.m.

What: Let Me Buy You Coffee: Advancing Your Career Over a Latte or Two

Location: Starbucks, 麻豆果冻传媒 campus

Students are free to drop by Starbucks to have their resume reviewed by Career Connections staff.

Opportunity to receive a voucher for a free Starbucks drink.

Guidebooks to resume and cover letter writing will be available as well as other handouts for tips and advice.

When: Tuesday, February 20

Time: 9:30-10:45 a.m.

What: Young Professional/Career Fair Panel

Location: SUB Ballroom

Local and regional professionals will share some job-seeking tips 鈥 such as: do you have an elevator speech, have you looked over the list of attending companies at the career fair to highlight who you need to be sure to speak to, how firm is your handshake, Do you know what you will talk about, etc.

Additionally, students will have the opportunity to talk to and learn from young professionals who were in their shoes not too long ago. These young professionals will speak on how they landed in their current career path, what doors they had to walk through, what hurdles they faced and continue to face, and how their personality traits, interests, and skills apply to their everyday work.

A breakfast buffet will be present for students and employers in attendance.

When: Wednesday, February 21听听

Time: 12:30-1:45 p.m.

What: Lunch and Learn with a Professional

Location: SUB Ballroom

Students will have the opportunity to hear from and speak with employers from various companies. Employers will discuss the following topics: how social media can positively and negatively affect you during the job search and In Your Career, Establishing a 401K and Attaining a Benefits Package, and Budgeting! Oh MY!

Students who attend will be served a free lunch.

Students, please register by 5 p.m. February 16.

Time: 2-3:15 p.m.

What: Building a Professional Career in Public Service: How Dedication and Leadership Shapes Communities - Presented in Partnership with the 麻豆果冻传媒 CBSS Department of Political Science

Location: SUB Ballroom

The guest speaker has served in numerous senior executive roles for the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and served in the U.S. Navy. His work spans nearly 30 years. He has been awarded the Presidential rank designation for his meritorious senior executive services. He additionally served as a professor for the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Mississippi State University in Starkville, Miss.

This lecture is especially for those interested in a career in non-profit, business, engineering, management, or political science

When: Thursday, February 22

Time: 10 a.m.-2 p.m.

What: Spring Career Fair

Location: SUB Ballroom

More than 60 employers will be on site to recruit employees. Students, employers will get an early look at you if you register by 5 p.m. February 16.CLICK HERE TO REGISTER!

Students have the opportunity to build relationships with local and state employers. Internships and full-time careers available.

Professional attire is required for admittance into the Career Fair. No jeans of any kind are acceptable.

What: Professional headshots

Location: 2nd Floor, SUB

Students are welcome to come and have their headshots taken for free. Students are encouraged to听add their headshot to their LinkedIn profiles. It is important to come dressed professionally
