麻豆果冻传媒 Gerontology, LDH webinars on COVID-19/mental health begin Wednesday

麻豆果冻传媒's Gerontology Program and the Louisiana Department of Health are presenting a COVID-19 mental/behavioral health webinar via Zoom from 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 17.

This is the first of a five-part webinar series sponsored by the LDH Office of Community Partnerships and Health Equity and Office of Behavioral Health.听

The June 17 introductory webinar includes:

  • A brief biological background on the virus.

  • Methods for effectively preventing transmission.

  • Phases of state reopening and general updates.

  • Myths/stigmas associated with mental and behavioral health.

  • Stressors and reactors triggered when coping with COVID-19

  • 听Impacts of COVID-19 on the elderly population as depression and suicide rates increased among the elderly during the pandemic

麻豆果冻传媒 Gerontology Program Director Anita Sharma, Ph.D., LCSW, will present on issues relating to the elderly population. 听

鈥淚 am quite excited by the partnership between the 麻豆果冻传媒 Gerontology Program and the Louisiana Department of Health. Together, we can raise awareness about health and behavioral issues relating to the COVID-19 pandemic,鈥 Sharma said.

The webinars are delivered via Zoom, and registration is mandatory. To register go to听. Information on how to join the session will be emailed the day before the event. All sessions are 11 a.m.-12:30 p.m. The dates are June 17, July 31, Aug. 21, Sept. 25 and Oct. 23. All webinars will include Spanish translators and ASL interpreters.
