School of Allied Health names first Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award winner, nominees

鶹ý School of Allied Health (SOAH) under the College of Health Sciences is pleased to announce new undergraduate student awards in Spring 2020. The Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award – Recognition of Excellence provides an opportunity for the SOAH to recognize the successes and outstanding work of our undergraduate students.

The Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award honors an undergraduate student who demonstrates exceptional scholarship, character, and service.

Candidates for the Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award shall display

· Noteworthy academic accomplishments

· Excellent character in interactions with peers and faculty

· Meritorious service to the community, college or university, student organization

The Spring 2020 Outstanding Undergraduate Student Award recipient is Monika Paneru – a senior Medical Laboratory Science student.

Jessica Dolecheck, Ph.D., Associate Professor and Health Studies Program Coordinator, said Monika exemplifies the character and drive of MLS students.

“Monika Paneru demonstrates a passion for the MLS profession. She is a self-driven, studious individual and enthusiastically seeks ways to enhance her knowledge about the profession,” Dolecheck said.

Paneru is actively involved in the 鶹ý MLS Society Student Organization, is the vice-chair for the Louisiana Society for Clinical Laboratory Science Developing Professional Forum, and Region VII Representative for the American Society for Clinical Laboratory Science, where she actively participates in pertinent topics about the MLS profession.

“Academically, Monika excels in a very rigorous MLS program while maintaining three part-time jobs. Even with her intense coursework and substantial part-time job responsibilities, She constantly displays a professional attitude and serves as an excellent mentor for her peers. The MLS faculty considers Monika Paneru a very talented student with budding leadership potential,” Dolecheck said.

The nominees for the Spring 2020 Outstanding SOAH Student Award with Monika Paneru include, Grace Convey – Speech Language Pathology, Destiny Davis – Health Studies, Neven Mobley – Health Studies, Maggi Paxton – Dental Hygiene and Taylor Richey – Radiologic Technology.

Congratulations to our outstanding student award winner and to all the student nominees who have achieved this noteworthy recognition in the School of Allied Health.
