The Wind Ensemble of the University of Louisiana Monroe presents its first concert of the semester at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 25, 2021, in Brown Auditorium.

Conductors for the performance are VAPA Director Derle R. Long, Ph.D., and Visiting Assistant Professor of Music Sean O鈥橮ry, M.A.

鈥淭he performance will feature a tribute to Black History Month and a tribute to the individuals who died on Jan. 6, 2021, in Washington, D.C.,鈥 Long said.
听
The repertoire includes 鈥淪arabande and Polka鈥 by Malcolm Arnold, 鈥淎 Movement for Rosa鈥 by Mark Camphouse, 鈥淎n American Elegy鈥 by Monroe native听, 鈥淎quarium鈥 by Johan De Meij, and 鈥淲edding Dance鈥 by Jacques Press.
听
The performance will conclude with a special edition of John Philip Sousa鈥檚 鈥淭he White Rose March.鈥

鈥淎 Movement for Rosa鈥 was composed to honor Rosa Parks, a civil rights leader in Montgomery, Ala. In 1955, she refused to give up her seat on a city bus to a white man. She is called 鈥渢he mother of the civil rights movement.鈥
听
鈥淎n American Elegy鈥 was composed in memory of those killed and to honor the survivors of the Columbine High School shooting on April 20, 1999.
