麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program holds annual banquet

MONROE, LA 鈥 The 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program recognized eleven students graduating with honors in the college, three students graduating with honors in the university, and three students who completed all undergraduate requirements and will enter 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 Pharmacy program.

Students graduating from honors in the college must complete 20 hours of honors coursework, complete independent honors research, and maintain a 3.4 GPA or higher. Those eleven students graduating with Honors in the College were Maggie Lee Eubanks (Monroe, LA 鈥 political science), Noor Sami Farhat (Alexandria, LA 鈥 medical laboratory science), Tirian K. Judy (Monroe, LA 鈥 computer science), Allison Rose Litwin (West Monroe, LA - biology), Sijan Malla (Nepal 鈥 computer science), Kezlie Martin (West Monroe, LA - psychology), Shreeyasha Pandey (Kathmandu, Nepal 鈥 computer science), Samantha Bryn Pencil (Sonoma, CA 鈥 mathematics, mathematics education concentration), Tram Phan (Hanoi, Vietnam - marketing), Lauren Polson (Shreveport, LA 鈥 English), Deepika Shrestha (Chitwan, Nepal 鈥 mathematics, actuarial science concentration).

Students graduating from honors in the university must complete 22 hours of honors coursework, complete independent honors research, write a thesis, and maintain a 3.5 GPA or higher. Deepmala Bhomi, a computer science major from Bhaktapur, Nepal, was recognized for her thesis, 鈥Investigating Skill-To-Skill Relationship from Resumes.鈥 Deepmala will is an Associate Programmer Analyst for DXC Technology. Cherie Mialaret, a communications major from Mandeville, LA, was recognized for her thesis 鈥Public Libraries: Still Evolving - An Evaluation of the Public Perception of Local Libraries.鈥 Brennan Remington, a psychology major from Vidalia, LA, was recognized for his thesis, 鈥淭he IQ Qualm - A Review of Intelligence Quantification Methods and the Impact of Cultural Bias on Testing Results.鈥 Brennan will attend graduate school at the University of Louisiana Monroe.

Three students were recognized for completing the requirements for honors in the college and will enter the Pharmacy graduate program in the Fall. They were Jodi Bourgeois (Vacherie, LA), Caitlyn Breedlove (Hamburg, AR), and Kaitlyn Edwards (Pineville, LA).

The 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program also recognized outstanding alumni, faculty, and students. The Faculty of the Year Award went to Dr. Joyce Zhou, associate professor of marketing, in recognition for her exemplary record of creating service learning and research opportunities for honors students. The Alumni of the Year Award went to retired Louisiana Supreme Court Justice Markus Clark. In addition to a long and distinguished record of public service, Justice Clark was recognized for his generous donation used to renovate the Honors Lounge in Strauss Hall.

The recipient for the Jordan Faith Bass Freshman of the Year Award was George Khawas, a computer science major from Nepal; the Sophomore of the Year was Beau Benoit, a toxicology major from Bossier, LA; the Junior of the Year was Jodi Bourgeois, a pre-pharmacy major from Vacherie, LA; the Senior of the Year was Brennan Remington, a psychology major from Vidalia, LA. The honors program also awards a student of the year. The Student of the Year Award is given to the student who best exemplifies the ideals of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program through excellence in scholarship, high moral character, and outstanding service to the honors program and university. Caitlyn Cullen, a senior political science student from Vacherie, LA was the recipient.

Dr. Joshua Stockley, director of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program, in brief remarks to those in attendance, said 鈥淧resident Berry challenged all 麻豆果冻传媒 faculty, staff, and students to contribute a verse to our University and to our communities. These outstanding students, faculty, and alumni responded to this call and we want to publicly recognize them.鈥 Stockley, 鈥淚 am so proud of our graduates. They excelled in their academic programs, completed the honors program, and contributed significantly to the University community. They are our future leaders.鈥

The 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program is a unique program within 麻豆果冻传媒 that seeks any intellectually curious student who desires to challenge themselves with new ideas and to work with similarly motivated students. The program is open to any student of any major. Honors students are exposed to more in-depth topics and work closely with faculty in smaller courses.
