MONROE, LA 鈥 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program attended the annual meeting of the Southern Regional Honors Council (SRHC) on March 27-29, in Chattanooga, TN.听The 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program was represented by Beau Benoit, a senior toxicology major; Gwen Abadie, a senior toxicology major; Sabina Dahal, a senior biology major; Sumiksha Koirala, a senior mathematics major; and Noah Stephan, a junior biology major.听听
Sumiksha Koirala presented 鈥Generalizing the Problem of the Probability of First Claim Among Multiple Actuaries and Analyzing the Impact of Deductibles on Payout Variance in Comparison to Payout Mean.鈥 鈥淭he听SRHC meeting was a great experience for me,鈥 said Koirala. 鈥淚 had the opportunity to meet honors students from other universities and learn about their programs. I also attended sessions where a variety of important topics were discussed. One of the highlights was getting to present my poster and share my research experience, which was incredibly rewarding. I also had the chance to learn about other students' research projects, which were both inspiring and educational. The entire experience was truly enriching. I got to explore a new city, meet new people, and gain fresh perspectives. Overall, it was an unforgettable and inspiring journey,鈥 added Koirala. 听
Sabina Dahal presented 鈥淪ynthesis and Evaluation of Novel Pyrazolone Hybrids as Potential Anticancer Agents.鈥澨 鈥淎ttending the SRHC meeting in Chattanooga was truly an unforgettable experience,鈥 said Dahal. 鈥淐onnecting with fellow honors students from different universities allowed me to exchange ideas, share my own research, and discover fresh perspectives that I hadn't considered before. These interactions have motivated me to continue exploring new avenues in my academic path. Beyond the academic sessions, I had so much fun bonding with other honors students, exploring the beautiful city of Chattanooga, and making memories that I will cherish for a long time. I truly appreciate the Honors Program for making this experience possible,鈥 she continued. 听
Beau Benoit presented 鈥淪ex Difference in Opioid-Induced Neuronal Degeneration.鈥 Benoit, 鈥淭his was my first research presentation at a major conference, and I am grateful for both the opportunity and the interest shown,鈥 said Benoit. 鈥淚 was fortunate to reconnect with people I had met before from NCHC in Kansas City, Mo., and SRHC in Jacksonville, Fla., last year. Recognizing and being recognized by other honors students highlights the importance of networking, and it is something I truly cherish. It鈥檚 bittersweet to know this was my last opportunity to represent the 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program, but I am so grateful for all that I have been able to accomplish through the Honors Program,鈥 he added. 听
鈥淪RHC opened my eyes to what a student can do,鈥 said Noah Stephan. 鈥淥ftentimes, it may feel like a student can't make much of an impact at the university level, but SRHC showed me that not only is that untrue 鈥 it鈥檚 quite the opposite. Students took the lead in not only advocating for their honors programs but also in conducting research. It encouraged me about the direction our honors program is heading and about the 麻豆果冻传媒 students who are leading the charge,鈥 stated Stephan. 听
鈥淪RHC was a wonderful experience that gave me insight into how other honors programs operate, introduced me to student projects, and made me aware of the many opportunities available,鈥 said Gwen Abadie. 鈥淭hrough this experience, I learned how to better lead our peer mentorship program in a way that fosters greater engagement and stronger connections among students in our honors program,鈥 she added. 听
鈥淭he Southern Regional Honors Council conference is a valuable opportunity for our students to engage with a broader academic community, present their research, and gain new perspectives on their fields of study,鈥 said Dr. Joshua Stockley, Director of the 麻豆果冻传媒 Honors Program. 鈥淚 am incredibly proud of our students for their outstanding presentations and their dedication to academic excellence. Their participation not only showcases the strength of 麻豆果冻传媒鈥檚 Honors Program but also reinforces the importance of collaboration and intellectual curiosity in higher education. These experiences will undoubtedly serve them well as they continue their academic and professional journey,鈥 Stockley said. 听

The Southern Regional Honors Council is an educational organization that promotes and advances Honors Programs and Honors Colleges in the southern United States. SRHC currently comprises over 100 member institutions, hosts an annual conference, publishes a literary arts journal Sanctuary, and provides a variety of grants to support student efforts to engage in NCHC-sponsored experiential learning as well as leadership in honors organizations. 听
