Facilities

The Environmental Analysis LaboratoryÌýis housed in the Chemistry & Natural Sciences Building located at the corner of Northeast Drive and University Avenue. This part of CNSB was specifically designed for the laboratory when the building was constructed in 1982. Because the staff was able to have input into the original design, the facility has continued to serve the lab well for over thirty years.

Testing Capabilities

Lady checking samplesInstrumentation:Ìý State of the art scientific testing equipment is utilized for the analysis of samples in this laboratory. A few examples of equipment housed in the Â鶹¹û¶³´«Ã½ Environmental Analysis Laboratory include Inductively Coupled Plasmas, and Flow Injection Mercury Systems.

Ìý

Soil Testing:Ìý Samples are routinely analyzed for existing nutrient levels. These levels are used to make recommendations for the addition of fertilizer and lime, which ultimately results in achieving conditions for optimum plant growth.

Ìý

Non-Potable Water & Wastewater:Ìý Many types of metals, minerals, nutrients and additional standard water tests are performed daily.

Ìý

Microbiology:Ìý Total coliform and fecal coliform analysis is completed daily on many types of water samples. Methods used in the lab include both membrane filter and presence/absence techniques.

Ìý

Metals & Minerals:Ìý Elements in both dissolved and total forms are analyzed on numerous sample types.
