In addition to traditional speech-language pathology services, the Kitty DeGree Speech and Hearing Clinic hosts a specialized literacy clinic. This program was created in 2007 by Dr. Linda Bryan to address the growing role SLPs play in the remediation of literacy impairment.
The Literacy Clinic is held during the fall and spring semesters and provides an intensive reading and writing experience in both individual and group settings. This program strives to address the needs of children who may have experienced a prolonged and significant lack of success in reading and writing despite the determined efforts of parents and educators. The Literacy Clinic focuses on developing skills and strategies that promote comprehension, focus on meaning, and support achievement of grade appropriate reading and writing abilities.
